young ex-contestant of American Idol
Antonella Barba made headlines
when her semi-nude photos were posted on the Internet for the
world to see. The scandal overshadowed her singing talents and
those of other American Idol contestants for a brief
while.
Ultimately, Barba was
eliminated from the show. However, she hopes to embark on a
professional singing career despite the American Idol
elimination.
Barba had hoped to remain on
the show based on her talent. She hoped that the photos did not
influence the judges’ decision in any way. Barba was outraged
when her personal photos were distributed all over the Internet
without her permission and claimed that she had been exploited
due to her trusting, open nature.
These photos, which were widely viewed all over the media,
showed a scantily clad Barba in various states of undress. A
photo of her in a wet t-shirt contest also
surfacedAdditionally, someone doctored photos and superimposed
Barba’s head on another body engaging in sex acts. These photos
made no official mention on American Idol.
Although Barba claims she felt pressured by the publicity from
the photos, the American Idol producers urged her to stay
focused on the competition and to ignore the controversy.
Barba claims that the photos don’t represent her as a person.
She tried to block out the photos as much as she could to focus
on the competition.
Barba, who studies architecture at Catholic University, is
planning on remaining in Los Angeles for a ocuple of weeks to
see what other offers might surface. She prefers a singing
career focusing particularly on pop music, although she is open
to modeling or acting jobs as well.
Barba says, “I want to strike while the iron’s hot,” claiming
that she wants to take this opportunity to make a name for
herself as a singer. She claims she did not want to promote
herself through those photos in any way.
Various wild rumors abound on the Internet, where people
speculate that Barba will pose for Penthouse, Playboy, and
Girls Gone Wild. Barba dispels rumors that she is going to pose
for Playboy magazine. When asked if she would pose if Playboy
ever made an offer, Barba says, “Absolutely not.”
Barba asserts that the pictures posted of her were not meant
for public consumption and were not how she wants to portray
herself to the public in the future. She continually argues
that the photos were never meant to be seen by others and
describes them as private and personal.
A public relations rep for American Idol prevented reporters
from asking Barba sensitive, personal questions. She was
reportedly distraught after half an hour of
questions.
